How did you find our site? | While searching for David Gneiting, circa 1970. |
What unit did you serve with? | 199th Light Infantry Brigade |
When did you serve? | Vietnam, December 66 - June 68 |
Please enter your comments: | Looking for David R. Gneiting for his in-country pen pal, Mary Ella, a college coed from Wisconsin. She doesn't know if Dave made it back to the world or not, although he's not listed on The Wall. Dave was an RTO with the 1/27th in 1970. Mary would like closure with this short but important part of her life. She exchanged letters and emotions with this guy for the better part of a year. Emotions ran high for us all in those days, and very many of us can yet feel them just below the surface; and that includes the civilians we reached out to in those times. Please contact me if you have any idea what happened to SP/4 (he may have been promoted to E-5)Gneiting. |

When did you serve? | 1969-1970 |
Please enter your comments: | Found this by accident. It's pretty cool. I was with the Wolfhounds as an infantry guy. Been to most of the popular places during that time (hot lz's, numerous firebases, and hastily constucted patrol bases) rolled alot of wire, pulled about 200 ambushes, and put out alot of claymores. As one of many Native Americans who served with the 25th in the infantry I think it would be good if a seperate page could be developed, since Indian Country is so small. |

When did you serve? | June, 1963 to March, 1965 |
Please enter your comments: | I left the division just months before they went to Vietnam. Over the years I have wondered if the friends I made, that I left behind, survived the Vietnam tragedy. In 1965 the war seemed so right, and just, and I continue to want to believe that, but yet, I wonder. So many young men lost their lives. Still, the threat of communism in Southeast Asia diminished after the war. I hope America never commits her young to anything like that again. I'm glad I didn't have to go to Vietnam and fight, but if my country had wanted me to do so, I would have. God bless all that did go to that awful place. The ones who died and the ones who returned. |

How did you find our site? | It is one of my favorite places |
Please enter your comments: | My name is Christian Culleton. My father, Sgt. Carson G. Culleton ("Cully" or "Cars") served in Vietnam from September '67 until his death near Dau Tieng on 25 July 1968. He was with Co A 2d Bn 12th Inf 25th Inf Div. Forgive me, I have never served in the military, so I am not at all accustomed to the nomenclature and terminologies of the armed services. I check the Tropic Lightning website often for soldiers who may have known him. To date, I have found three, one who only met him for a day, and I cannot tell you how positive their impact on my life has been, to tell me stories, warts and all, of the father I never knew. This May 16th would have been his 60th birthday, and in his honor, his two sisters (my aunts) and myself are assembling a journal on his life. Obviously, our biggest gap is the time he spent in the Army. The following is a list of names of men taken from the backs of pictures that Carson took of them. He was quite the archivist using his camera. I know that this is a shot in the dark, but I would appreciate any help, guidance, or resources that you could direct me to. Cpt. Hewitt Roger Masten, Eureka, CA Jerry Virsi (Song Be, Nov 67) Ray Slavik (Dau Tieng...wounded but sent home) SFC harry Palmer, LA, CA Jerry Peterson, Minneapolis, MN (Co. armouror) Sam Spinnuzi, Pueblo, CO SFC Droughn (wounded on Thuder Road in Dec 67) Carl Swon, Paris, MO (wounded on Thuder Road in Dec 67...sent home) Harvey Houk (wounded on Thuder Road in Dec 67...sent home) Mike Linn, NY, NY SFC Negron, Puerto Rico SGT David E. Thrailill, Memphis, TN To date I have found Bill Carle, Dan Hollister and Danny Harvey. God bless you for your sacrifice and service. Sincerely, Christian Culleton |
