Comments: I served with the 27th Infantry Wolfhounds in the mid 50s, never saw any combat. However, it does not surprise me that members of the 25th Division would serve with valor. In 1956-1958 we were extremely proud of our units, and well-trained to do any job put before us. To the vets of Viet Nam, thank you for doing your duty. dick emmons

Comments: Hello! I have just created a web page that features 48 of my Dad's photos from the 25th Division, in Vietnam, during 1966. My father was Major Frank S. Farmer, XO of the 1/27 during the first half of 1966. Information, questions, comments are very welcome. I would be honored to hear from anyone who knew my Dad, and also to learn the names of the other men featured in the pictures. I recognize General Fred C. Weyand, but that is about it.

He passed away 2 years ago, and I am proud to say I was given the flag from his casket. I also have his scrapbook and unit photo from Pearl taken 2 months before the attack. I would enjoy hearing from any of those who served with Nick. He was more a grandfather to me than an uncle, and I miss him dearly!

Comments: To; Andy Carr, Spokane Wash. Hey bud, there was no e-mail address printed for you in your message. I just recently found this site. I guess for somebody as full of it as a Xmas turkey, I've never really looked for someplace like this. Sure, I stick my chest out when someone mentions Viet-Vets, and I meant what I said about doing it all over again. I think, like a guy said in a movie once, "I just finally made friends with the ghosts". Now I have a 16 year-old daughter who has questions, and I feel she has the right to have answers(even if they are one sided). So, now I think it might be time to look for some of you guys who lived those times too. Dave Budde is probably the name and face I remember most. I wasn't a regular gunner, and a lot of guys wouldn,t trust an unknown to back them up(no matter what I had done, or where I had been before) Not Dave, he was one great guy, and I considered him a friend, whether or not he would even remember me now. There was another guy, I think his name was Bob or Robert, and people called him "Lurch" I think he told everybody he was Puerto Rican. I think the C.O. of the bears was Maj. Charlie Brown and the XO or ops. officer was Maj. Romig,(dangerous Dan). sound familiar? I think my "best bud" was a guy named Ray Whitney from N.J. There was another good guy who worked in airfield ops. named Mark Olsen from Minn.(he played "Paint it Black" by the Stones constantly). Okay, now you got me runnin' off at the mouth real good! Thats enough, give me a holler if you know any thing about Budde or if I can be of any help looking for those guys. Take care. My e-mail address is AL BUNDY1003@cs.com, or Mr Archy Bunker@aol.com.

Comments: My son is currently assigned to the 25th Tropic Lightening Division (DivArty) at Schofield Barracks. I had the good fortune to recite this poem to a reunion of the 25th in September 1999. They had gathered at the Freedoms Foundation "Medal of Honor" Grove, in Valley Forge, PA to honor some of their fallen comrades. Please contact me if you have any points of discussion concerning this poem. I send my warmest regards to all members of the 25th, HOOHA. Go Army! Beat Navy! Carroll Michaud "Final Roll Call" Did you hear the sad news today? Another veteran warrior has passed away. Called by the Supreme Commander over all. Today he has made his final roll call. Come fellow vets; let us reverently bow and pray For our valiant comrade, who has fallen this day. We'll drape his casket with a banner of beautiful hues, Those glorious American colors: red, white and blue. That star spangled banner he gallantly fought to defend, Unyielding and undaunted, he fought to win. He fought bravely and he passed the battle test. Now the Supreme Commander grants him, "eternal rest". With dignity and honor, we'll commit his body to the ground, The bugler will sound "Taps" and we'll fire the volley rounds. The final military honors we'll render somberly and ever so sadly; "Old Glory" we'll solemnly precisely fold and reverently give to his family. Each Memorial Day we will recall our fallen comrade names, And attest that their selfless sacrifices were not in vain; For this lasting legacy they gave to all generations; "It's honorable to respect our flag and to defend our great nation." So close ranks aging warriors, for our ranks are thinning. We must keep on fighting and keep on winning. With pride and honor we'll march and stand tall, And we'll proudly - proudly - salute "Old Glory" 'til we too make our final roll call. A free gift to our great Veterans. Share it with a Vet. Copyrighted. Not for commercial use. By: Carroll R. Michaud, Major, USAF Ret'd 7046 Greenwood Road, Shreveport, LA. 71119 PePops@hotmail.com

Comments: This is one hell of a web-site!!! I couldn't believe my eyes when I found it. So much of it only showed up in a bad dream, and now I am remembering names like; Dave Budde, Odie Gregg(a slick driver, who saved a bunch of our butts by not hitting the fuel truck parked on the "Lightning Pad" when the poor old worn-out C&C ship couldn't get off the ground). If anybody remembers me they can e-mail any time. I was the kind of tall(extremely good-looking!) Sp/5-SSGT Air-Traffic Control Tower Chief, who couldn't stand having his feet on the ground(I managed to worm or weasel my way into a few hundred hours of door-gunner flight time) I was assigned to the Little Bears(with the perverted asian sun bear for a mascot) from Feb.67 till Mar.68 Just about one too many night medivac flights, I guess. But I was always happier than a pig in crap for whatever I could do. I really did believe WE were doing the right thing. Whether it was patriotism(hell, we were young!) or whatever, if I were asked, you're Damned right I'd do it again!!! Welcome Home, all you guys from the 25th and all the other units full of men who answered the call!!!!!!!!

Comments: What happened to the 25th ID ? No one has signed in since March. I wish to announce the WOLFHOUND reunion to held Sept. 15th-18th, at the Airport Holiday Inn North in St Louis, Mo.I would also like to take this time to wish everyone a memorable Memorial Day Weekend. As we all do a little introspection about our experiences and of our comrades that are not with us today. Not only those that did not return home with us, but also those our comrades who have pasted on since. Our bonds can not be readily seen on the surface by others, yet when we see each other we know without the mention of any word. Respectfully Wolfhound Mike, A 1st/27th 65-66

We were preparing to ship out to the Philippines from Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was attacked. We landed on Guadalcanal, New Georgia, and Luzon. Wounded 3 days after landing on Luzon and evac'd to Guadacanal. Went into training for the invasion of Japan in New Zealand but the "Bomb" stopped that and those of us with 3 campaigns were sent home. I've tried to keep up with 25th and enjoyed reading the quest book to give me an idea where the 25th has been since my discharge August 1945.

Comments: WOLFHOUNDS: If you haven't checked out the above web site, do so. It is dedicated to collecting the names of everyone who served with the Hounds in Vietnam. We have nearly 7,000 names, arranged by company and battalion. Many of the names have e-mail addresses attached. If your name isn't listed, send me an e-mail, and I'll make sure it is. I served with Co A, 1/27, as a platoon leader and XO, from Sept 67, until March 68. I was shot through the neck and shoulder during the Battle of Hoc Mon, on Feb. 6, 68. Hope to hear from you. Comments: Very nice to be back with the "Tropic Lightning" Division after being away from it for 53 years. Served in the division Judge Advocate's Office back in 1945 and 46. The last division JA was Major Olaf Osnes (deceased), a true officer and a gentleman. I still have copies of the "Tropic Lightning" newsletter which was issued in Japan. Many happy memories of this outfit. Keep up the good work!

Sounds like you missed the wonderful trip north to Duc Pho. Hope you check back and get the message, woould like to hear from you and see if you remember anyone I know , Over the years names fade on so many faces that I only remember those I spent so much time dodging the mines and RPGs with and the various fire fights . No matter how hard you try to forget all the misery and hell and what seemed like endless nights on ambush patrol it never seems to goaway. Hope your life has turned out well since returning home and that you are in good health, a day never goesby that I don't wish that I could have staid behind. From readingsome of the comments in alot of the messages on this page its plain to see that the people who have the loudest voices still don't get the idea of what those of us who went and spent our time in the bush went thru and are still going thru because of a policy that was wrong from the start and still hasn't improved. If they want to criticise us they should have stood beside us in the bush then they would beauthorised to have a say. But until that time they don't know %*#!??*, and ought to keep their mouths shut. Enough of that . Hope is eternal and lets hope that some day these hollywood warriors will get a clue.Hope to hear soon.

Comments: HHC 1BN 14INF in '86. Nowadays pushing papers around in Natick Labs. I find the discussion interesting -- especially the issue about medals awarded vs. deserved vs. appearing on the official records. I can testify that the Army, in its infinite wisdom, managed to omit an ARCOM from my own records. No big deal. No bullets involved, just stickin' up for the soldier. Too bad so many folks that haven't a clue seem to think they can tell the combat soldier after the fact what "really" happened. My hat's off to all you guys that have stood in the mud "in country". Supported elements of 2nd Battery 32 Artillery Bn at Dau Teing and then at HHC Battery 32nd Artillery at Tay Ninh and Soui Da. Made many trips by convoy from Long Bein to Dau Tien and Tay Ninh stopping over night at Cu Chi. Guys at the 125 Sig Bn would put us up overnight and then we'd finish the trip the next morning. The first mortar attack I was in was at an EM club there at Cu Chi. My team stayed in Quansit Tents at the bottom of the radio tower near the air strip at Dau Tieng. Shortly after we left for Tay Ninh the tower took a direct hit. We supported a battery of 155mm and 175mm at Tay Ninh and built a hooch on the north west side of the base camp near the perimiter. Was there during Tet 67-68.

Goodwin with a claim. This is posted in an attempt to help him. "Robert Goodwin was in the 25th Infantry Division as far as we know. There was one vet he stayed in touch with named Lawrence J. Law (2d Lt.) but the wife is unsure where he was from as the two men just spoke on the phone. Mr.Goodwin enlisted from Bangor, Maine, 11-24-52 and served in Korea after basic. He was on Pork Chop Hill and was a corporal - served in Korea for 18 mos. He was in a MASH unit 2/53 - 3/53 for lung problem. Some material we have puts him in 14th Infantry Regiment. He may have done time in a motor pool." If anyone knew Robert Goodwin, please e-mail Conrad Edwards VSO at - Thank you. Marty

Comments: I served as a Platoon Sergeant in A-Troop 3/4 CAV from FEB97-NOV99 at Schofield Barracks. It was the most enjoyed, and rewarding asignment in 18 years of service.

Comments: HEADS UP! I served a year June '67 to June '68 with Co. C 4/23rd Mech Inf. I'd like to hear from some of the guys but most important I have some info. Not long ago I was diagnosed with cancer, Lymphoma. I then made a claim with the VA and saw their docotrs. I didn't get the usual Army shuffle. I was told, You have cancer, looks like an Agent Orange thing. In less than 5 months from my first letter I was receiving 100% disability. I also received more than 12 months retro pay(?) Maybe I was luck, maybe people were just being nice, but maybe I fit some sort of profile, I don't know. Brothers hear me out, get a physical. Get them often. If a doctor needs to go where no man has gone before, just do it. If you were with the 4/23rd, 2/34th armor or one of those nuts on the Rome plows who spent time with us in the Hobo's or the Triangle, get a physical. Those places were just pelted with Agent Orange. Now, stay healthy and someone from the Tomahawks drop me a line. I'm not dead yet and I have no immediate plans to take that trip.

Comments: I served with the 25th Division during December 1966 thru November 1967 and again during 1970. Both times I served with the Division I was assigned to company A 1st Battalion (M) 5th Infantry. Our division is the best in the United States Army and I am very proud to have served then and I hope those young soldiers serving today feel much the same.

Comments: I was looking for anyone who served with SFC William Byrd in Vietnam. He is still alive and kicking but doesn't exactly know his way around the internet. He was in the 25th Military Police Co. and was awarded the Silver Star (awarded for gallantry in action on 25 August, 1968) and also the Bronze Star. I am 23 years old and can't express how proud of him I am. I was surfing around looking for a list of Silver Star awardees on the web and haven't had any luck. If anyone knows of a listing I would love to see it. I think he would find it interesting that his name is on the internet. If anyone knew him during his service and has any records/photos, let me know. We would both be eternally grateful.

Comments: Great Web Page. I have been trying to find a web page with information on the 25th Division. My dad belonged to the 25th in WWII and fought at Luzon. He passed away in 1995, and I would like to find more about the 25th, the proceedings they took, and maybe some of the people he served with. I also would like to know if there is any book or such which would have photos of the Luzon campaign. Here is some information on my dad. William J. Rohrbacher JR Serial #35 855 217 Grade S/SGT Military Occupation: Platoon Sergeant 605
